Kent say that they have received applications for the role of director of cricket from across the globe. The post became vacant when Paul Farbrace stepped down in September after two years in charge.
"We've had a fantastic response. We should have a strong shortlist to work with," Chief executive Jamie Clifford told BBC Radio Kent.
"We should know where we stand by Christmas, even if our new coach hasn't started by that time."
He continued: "I'm really encouraged by the quality of applications we've had, and it's good to know that, as a club, we can still attract some high profile names.
"The same goes for players. There are some good professionals out there."
Batsmen Joe Denly and Martin van Jaarsveld both left the St Lawrence Ground at the end of the 2011 season, while bowler Robbie Joseph was released in November.
"We haven't put a number on signings for the new season. It's more about the quality we can get for the budget available," Clifford said.
"We've been very thorough, scouring the length and breadth of the country domestically and also spoken to agents about overseas players."
